The relationship between a client and a psychotherapist is protected by law.

Protected Health Information (PHI) cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions to confidentiality include:

• Suspected child abuse or neglect or dependent adult or elder abuse or neglect

• Intent to harm self or others, including suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation

• Court-ordered disclosures
